Success has little to do with how good you are.
My biggest realisation since starting my business back in 2020, success has little to do with how good you are at what you do.
Maybe that was also true in the corporate world. Personal brand and how well you position and sell yourself, is perhaps more or at least as important as your skills. But at least there, you have people pushing you and often opening up opportunity.
I spent the first two years of business looking around at people with few discernible skills, but a readiness to 'jump on an Instagram Live' at any available opportunity, build their businesses with absolute intention.
"Can I have a successful business without filming my dog walk?... Please say I don't have to film my morning skincare routine... Or cry into the camera on bad days, to show my vulnerability."
Luckily the above turned out not to be a thing.
WHAT THESE FEARLESS INFLUENCERS HAD, WAS WELL ‘FEARLESSNESS’ AND THAT’S AN ENERGY. IT CAN LOOK LIKE A MILLION DIFFERENT THINGS, OTHER THAN ‘HOPPING ON INSTAGRAM’.
For example, it could be…
A totally fresh proposition in a crowded category of sameness.
An innovative business model.
A different client experience.
Content that gives people the inside track of your journey.
Crafting a strategy of intelligent, well-considered disruption requires fearlessness, but that's the real, long-term game-changer for your business.
For now please take this highly curated photograph of me pretending to put my make-up on, in lieu of me actually applying it from a 5 year old eyeshadow palette, wondering how often I should clean the beauty blender.
